Well I have been defeated today, and tomorrow it won't happen again. I broke down and gave my daughter cough medicine. She was coughing in her sleep so bad I could hear her dry heaving from the other room. OK it only happened once but that was enough for me.
Thank god I came across the blog The Coconut Mama. She had a recipe for a honey lemon cough syrup that I am going to make up in the morning for my Sicky girl.
The recipe is:
3 TBS fresh squeezed lemon juice
1/4 cup raw local honey
2 TBS coconut oil
Of course all my ingredients will be organic and thank you Jesus I have it all on hand.
Anyhow, you warm all in a sauce pan just until the coconut oil melts. You can store in fridge for up to a month. Just re-warm and take a spoonful.
I just love using God's natural remedies instead of man's.
If any of you try this out please let me know how it works.

Organic Strawberry Banana gluten free muffins

I found a recipe online and tweaked it a bit. These turned out amazing and my kids loved them! Not to mention they are gluten free and organic so all around a win-win. They are nice and chewy, not crumbly at all like most gluten free. The zanthan gum really helps this recipe out... DONT LEAVE IT OUT!!
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted organic butter melted
2 large organic eggs-lightly beaten
1 tsp organic pure vanilla you can get it here
2 ripe organic bananas smashed
1 cup organic strawberries diced into bite sized pieces
2 1/4 cups all-purpose gluten free flour (get a 2 pack here)
3/4 cup organic brown sugar
1 1/2 tsp aluminium-free baking powder
1/4 tsp aluminium-free baking soda
1/2 tsp xanthan gum (buy here)
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp sea salt
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and line a muffin tin with liners.
2. In a small saucepan melt butter, then let cool to room temperature.
In a medium bowl whisk eggs, vanilla, and banana. Add butter
3.and stir. Set aside.
4.In large bowl combine flour, sugar, baking powder & soda, cinnamon, salt and xanthan gum.
5. Gently fold strawberries into flour, making sure to coat all sides with flour. This will ensure they don't settle to the bottom of the batter.
6. Add wet ingredients to dry slowly and only stir until mixed. over mixing with make them too chewy.
7. Bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
Enjoy this for breakfast on the go or a snack anytime. Even add some whipped cream for a dessert. Yum yum!

Chiropractic treatments and infant reflux
My son has struggled from what you would call "silent reflux" since he was about a week old. Well, ever since my milk came in actually. He is gaining weight just fine, actually is on the big side. He doesn't scream all hours of the night or anything. He just pukes. ALOT! I am to the point of desperation, mostly because there seems to be nothing I can do. I'm helpless. Everything I have done in the past just then causes him discomfort and makes the puking worse. I have tried feeding him propped up, making him sleep upright, diet change (my milk dropped tremendously) and the homeopathic medicine Nat phos 6x. They all made him worse.
I came across an article (can't find it again to link it sorry) but it talked about Chiropractic being a cure for infant reflux. So long story short, I decided to try it out. With my husbands permission of course :) Dr. Lisa Gehl was found at the website, www.icpa4kids.org this website will show you Chiropractor's in your area that are qualified to practice on children. Let me say she was amazing. Not only did she spend time getting to know me and my children, I loved her demeanor with my baby. She talked sweetly to him, handled him gently, and explained everything before she did anything.
So come to find out his C1 was out of alignment, which is apparently very common. So she gently & slowly slipped it back in. Let's just say he did not like it one bit. But the puking stopped.. Well for a bit anyway. He ate twice, and no puking. But then I picked him up out of his car-seat and I heard a pop, I think his C1 popped back out because he immediately started puking ALOT. I wanted to cry. I was just hopping for a quick fix and he would be all better. I just have to remember that she did tell me it would take a few weeks before I seen a difference. Also as a massage therapist I do know that his muscles need to get loose and re-train to hold his bone in place instead of pulling it out of alignment. I have been gently massaging his neck trying to loosen his muscles, He doesn't care for that much either.
But he is better. He was almost rolling over from back to front, something that he had never been close to doing before.Go Benny Boy Go!! I will keep everyone posted on our progress as we continue with treatments. Please let me know if you have any questions and I will do my best to help answer. Apparently Chiropractic treatments can help with ear infections as well. Who Knew?

Welcome to The Conservative Hippie Momma. A place where you can be a Hippie and care about the health of your family (in turn saving the planet) and still hold conservative values.
